2010 Off to a Tough Start at Indoor Nationals Troutman, NC (January 7, 2010) The Crud Brother's Racing team rolled into the Bojangles' Coliseum on New Year's Day looking to start the 2010 season off with a bang. After the frustrations of the 2009 Indoor Nationals, the CBR team was set to start 2010 off on a winning track. However, there would be many ups and downs over the three day event. Friday night did not look good from the start. Falcon Smith would start 9th in his Heat Race on the tight confines of the arena floor. Smith would need to advance into the Top 4 spots to lock himself into the A-Main later in the evening. On the drop of the green, the #34 machine began to march towards the front of the pack. By lap 4, Falcon would throw his helmet in the ring for the battle for the transfer spot. After powering into the 4th position, a car began to spin directly in front of the CBR mount. Smith checked up, but the car behiend him could not, forcing him into the retaining wall. Suspension damage would sideline the #34 for the rest of the race. The CBR team went to work, and quickly made repairs to get out for the Last Chance Race. Smith elected to hang at the back and feel out the car after the repairs, not risking any more damage on Night One of the three day, four race event. On Saturday, it looked like the CBR team was in great position to pick up a win. Smith would start from the pole for the 'Fast Gun Dash' to begin the day. On the start, Falcon put the hammer down and jumped out to the lead going into Turn 1. From there, he would not look back, leading from green to checkered to pick up the dominating win in the quick 6 lap Dash. After the Dash win, a confident CBR team would start from the pole of the Heat Race. On the break, Smith took command of the field going into Turn 1. Smith would lead the field until a caution bunched the pack back up on lap three. In spite of this, on the restart, Falcon would get the jump once again and continue to extend his lead over the next few laps. It looked like the CBR team had win number two for the day in the bag. However, with only three laps remaining, trouble found the team once again. This time, a miss developed under the hood. Down on power, Smith was forced out of the race early with engine woes. Once in the pit area, the CBR team found the problem to be terminal, ending their weekend early. CBR To Kick off 2010 With "Indoor Nationals" Troutman, NC (December 2, 2009) Unlike many race teams across the United States, the Crud Brother's Racing team will have a short off season. Just weeks after closing out the 2009 racing season, Falcon Smith and the CBR team is gearing up for their first race of 2010...on New Year's Weekend, in a climate controlled environment. On January 1-3, 2010, Falcon and the CBR team will invade the Bojangles' Coliseum in downtown Charlotte, NC for the 2nd Annual Legends Indoor Dirt Nationals. The event will be held in conjunction with the Monster Truck Freestyle Nationals. For the special 'invitation only' three day event, the Colisuem crew will cover the floor with dirt and build a small clay oval on the arena floor. Racing will take place on Friday and Saturday nights, along with a race on Sunday afternoon. Each day will include Heat Races, a Non-Qualifier Race and a 20 lap A-Main.
During the Inagural edition of the event, Smith was the center of attention. On Friday night, Falcon drove the #34 machine to a Heat Race win and led the first 19 laps of the 20 lap A-Main. The checkerd flag was taken away on the final lap when contact from the 2nd place car sent the CBR mount spinning to a 3rd place finish. The Saturday night event shaped up the same way, with Falcon taking the Heat Race win. Once again, he would be denied the win as contact forced him from the lead and eventually to the pit area with a broken steering arm. "It was a disappointing race last year," Smith commented. "It was fun, but I think we got a couple of wins taken away from us. It's a pretty cool deal racing in the middle of the winter, indoors, and in front of a huge crowd. Last year I think I earned a lot of new fans at that event. The event really brings us to a new crowd that normally wouldn't see Legends Cars racing on dirt."
